* Thank you Simply Earth for providing the products for this post!
I am an Essential Oils newbie considering how long these have been popular lately. I never invested in oils, because I didn't know what I would use them for! When Simply Earth approached me about reviewing their Essential Oils line, I started doing my research. I picked the following five oils- Lemon, Peppermint, Frankincense, Tea Tree and Cedarwood- to start me off.
Following are 10 very practical ways to use these 5 oils.
1. Disposal Cleaner- Lemon
Start by grinding up 12 ice cubes in your disposal to sharpen the blades. Next, fill the sink with hot water and 2 drops of lemon oil. Drain the water down the disposal.
2. Counter Cleaner- Lemon
Fill a clean spray bottle with water and add 2-3 drops of lemon oil. Spray the mixture on kitchen or bathroom counters and wipe down with a rag. You rooms will smell fresh and clean. This will also work for wiping down a refrigerator or microwave.
3. Eye Makeup Remover- Frankincense
Mix 2 drops of Frankincense with Coconut oil. Rub the oil on your eyelids and wipe off with a cotton ball.
4. Dry Scalp Remedy- Tea Tree
Mix 5-6 drops of Tea Tree oil to a spoonful of Coconut oil. Massage on dry parts of your scalp, leave in for a few hours, and shampoo out.
5. Bug Repellent- Peppermint
Bugs are notorious for hating the smell of peppermint. Ants in particular are prone to stay away from the scent. Fill a spray bottle with water and a few drops of peppermint oil. Spray your drains, window sills and doorways.
6. Fake Tree Scent- Cedarwood
We do not have a real tree this year, and I miss the smell of wood and pine. A few drops of Cedarwood oil on your tree can held bring the smell of fresh cut wood inside.
7. Diaper Rash- Frankincense
Coconut oil and a drop of Frankincense cleared up a nasty diaper rash on my son in no time.
8. Wood Polish- Cedarwood
Add equal parts olive oil and vinegar to a spray bottle and 5 drops of cedarwood (or lemon also works well). Shake well and spray on a microfiber cloth to polish wood furniture.
9. Massage Oil- Peppermint
Mix a few drops of Peppermint oils with a non scented lotion or coconut oil for a aromatic back massage.
10. Trashcan Deoderizer- Lemon
Add 3 drops of lemon oil to a cotton ball and place under your trash can's trash bag to keep it's poignant smells at bay.
