Step #1 - Trim back trees
Step #2 - Cut grass
Step #3 - Weed, mulch and put plants in retaining wall.
Ollie was not too thrilled with step #3 because that dirt area had become his digging pit, but it did so much to brighten up all of the dirt brown in the back.
Dom and his dad put in around 14 straight hours to get the patio built and did a fantastic job! We built it 8ft x 10ft with 12in x 12in stone pavers from Home Depot. He had to dig out a 10in deep square, level the dirt, add paver sand to block weeds from growing through, level the sand, lay the pavers, level the pavers, seal the pavers with a cement sand, add drainage rocks to the back - you get the picture - it was a lot of work!
Step #5 - Power wash the foundation
This was a variation of a Pinterest post I had seen and was such an easy project. I bought the faux wood whiskey barrels at Aldi for $12/piece. Dom put a cinder block in the middle of each one and filled in dirt all around the cinder block. He placed the 2x4 inside the cinder block and poured a concrete mix into the cinderblock and waited for it to harden (You can see the 2x4 in the back left corner is leaning because we didn't let it set long enough before moving it so we need to fix that at some point!). Once the concrete set, he filled more dirt on top and I planted wild flower seeds. We are still waiting on the flowers to bloom so right now it just looks like weeds, but hopefully we get flowers soon!
Step #7 - Hang lights
I found these solar paneled lights at Target. We don't have an outlet in the back so I knew we needed something battery-powered but when I found these solar powered ones I couldn't get over how genius it was! They automatically turn on every night (unless we turn them off) and recharge during the day.
We have the Mendocino Dining Table in Brown and the Sancerre Outdoor Dining Chairs in Natural/Gray. They are always having incredible sales but stuff sells out and goes on back order really fast, so if you find something you like at a good price then grab it cause it will be gone (I know from experience!). As I'm writing this, they are running a 70% off Father's Day sale until 6/24 and I've seen them do this around a few other holidays so keep an eye out for their major sales.
