Since I lived in Birmingham in college, so much has changed! One of the biggest changes is the Avondale area. My husband and I met some friend down there on Saturday, and my mind was blown. A gorgeous park, brewery, concert venue, barbecue, coffee shot, pizzeria, Korean/Mexican fusion restaurant (?) and tons of cute little places. I was so stinking impressed!
In this post I want to highlight Post Office Pies and Saturn Coffee Shop. This was our first trip to this amazing pizza place and the most original coffee shop I have ever sen.
My favorite pizzas are wood or brick oven pizza, thin crust, minimal sauce, and blacked crust. That perfectly describes Post Office Pie's pizzas. It was absolutely delicious. They have 7 pizza creations as well as an option to create your own pizza. I order the Margherita and our friends tried the Swine Pie. Both were great.
Oliver approved of Post Office Pies!
Next we walked across the street to Saturn Coffee Shop. This was seriously the weirdest/coolest coffee shop. It has a space/old video game/retro theme going on with a coffee bar, alcoholic bar, photo booth, show venue, snow cone stand, and local pastries. I had some issues with my camera inside, so I didn't get a ton of pictures, but check it out yourself if you like rocket shaped trashcans, and lots of Neon Orange!
Oliver fit in with his Superhero Cape Bib... soo much drool.
To the side of the cafe, they have an open space that can act as a concert venue, yoga studio, vintage game night arena, or - as was the case on Saturday- a local craft fair. I loved the handmade jewelry by:

I tried one of their Snickerdoodle cookies and my husband got the coffee soda which was... unique?! You would have to try it to even begin to understand the utter shock you get when it hits your mouth!
Anyone visiting Birmingham should definietly visit Avondale area. It has so much to offer! Hopefully I will be sharing more of its many treasures in the near future.
