I rarely plan to be political on my blog, but when I do, I'm going to speak my mind.
First off, one thing I hate more than anything in Politics and in the news is when people are clearly bias but refuse to admit it. Everyone's opinions are influenced by someone or something. Therefore, let me state my bias before I give my opinion. My thoughts and opinions on the events that have happened and are happening in the Israeli/Hamas conflict are influenced by my love of all things Israel. My family has spent extensive time in the area, and we have close friends currently fighting for Israel.
Here are some pictures of our family in Israel:
For those of you who do not have CNN or FOX news programmed to your TV, here is some background on what has been happening in and around Israel in the past few months.
On June 12th, 3 Israeli teenagers were kidnapped near the border of the west bank. As the Israeli government worked to rescue the boys, Gaza began firing missiles into Israel in protest of the search and rescue missions. All 3 boys were found murdered. Some Al Qaeda cells are claiming responsibility, but Hamas (militant group ruling in Gaza) are still the prime suspects. Soon after their burial, a Palestinian boy was found murder in Israel. There are people willing to do terrible things to people no matter your nationality. Things began looking worse. As Gaza continued firing rockets into Israel, Israel began firing back. Cease fires were negotiated, but Hamas broke the agreement each time. On July 8th, Israel called up 40,000 reservists into the army, and on July 17th, Israeli ground troops invaded Gaza for the first time since 2008.
That being said, all I want to do is give some facts and some of my opinions about the conflict that the news fails to mention.
1. Hamas murders their own people and blames it on Israel.
This makes me madder than anything else. The Hamas's missile launchers are almost always positioned on top of schools, day cares, or hospitals. Hamas knows that in order to stop missiles being fired at Israel, they will force Israel to kill innocents. Before Israel sends a missile towards a Hamas missile station, they drop pamphlets asking people to leave the areas. They also blast a warning over the area before a missile attack hoping that people will leave the area. Hamas will force their people to stay inside the buildings. When they die, Hamas uses their deaths as an international rally cry again Israel. They tell the world that Israel is murdering innocent children... They murder their own people. It is cowardly to blame someone else for your actions.
2. Hamas refused to cease fire yet calls for UN and internal help for their suffering.
Twice now Israel has agreed to stop firing missiles if Hamas will do the same. Hamas has had the chance to protect their people, but they are so blinded by hatred that they don't care. Both times they continued firing missiles. The moment Israel takes out one of those missile launchers aimed at their people, Hamas asks for aid because of the tyranny of Israel. Stop pretending you care about your people.
3. If Mexico started killing Americans and firing rockets at America, we would not sit back and let it happen.
Most news reporters are condemning Israel's actions, but put yourself in their shoes. They will do whatever possible to keep their people safe. If we were under attack right now from any country, we would not ask them to stop, we would make them stop. Every member of the UN or Political official that asks Israel to stop invading Gaza is asking them to do something that they themselves would not do if they were in the same situation. No, John Kerry, there was no misunderstanding... if Hamas continues to fire rockets; Israel has the right to defend themselves.
4. Israeli people are not soul-less land grabbers. They are the most loving and supportive people I know!
Take this story for instance:
A 24 year old named Max Stienburg from Texas came to Israel as a Lone Soldier (a soldier volunteering their services to the Israeli army). He is one of almost 2,000 lone soldiers in the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces). He was killed earlier this month in the Gaza conflict. His funeral was held in Israel, and despite having no family and few friends in the country, 30,000 people attending his funeral! People who are scared to leave their homes these days rushed to give this man a hero's funeral. That is the Israeli people that I know and I love.
So, before you join the bandwagon blaming Israel and calling them heartless tyrants, please take a hard look at the facts and motivations behind this conflict.
I am 25 years old with a 2 year old son and a wicked handsome husband living in Birmingham, Alabama.
