In case you haven't seen from our numerous Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter posts already, D got a trophy in yesterday's show!!
He placed 4th overall in his weight class despite being the smallest guy in the division. It was his first show ever and he lost 28 lbs in 4 MONTHS! If only it were as easy as it seems!
Here is a before and after picture of D. He lost so much weight in his face. Can you even believe that this is the same guy!
Months and Months of eating nothing but unseasoned, skinless chicken breast, brussel sprouts, and rice cakes paid off! He worked so so hard and I am so proud of him. Here he is right after the judging with his first piece of pizza and with his first breakfast! He has had 6 pieces of pizza, a burger, fried pickles, a milkshake, biscuits and gravy, a gyro, dorritos, 4 cheesecake pancakes, and a piece of cheesecake within 24 hours of the show! I am surprised he didn't explode.
There was a lot of prep work the day of to get him ready. We were at the auditorium from 9am till 8pm! I practically stained my hands rubbing the tanning solutions on him. And then there was the hours and hours of waiting for his turn to go out.
The show itself was so amazing. It was a strictly natural competition (no steroids) and they drug tested the winners. It was promoted by two really Godly men who were determined to honor God throughout the show. They had prayer and devotions in the morning and before the night show, all of the tee-shirts had Bible verses on them, and almost all of the music was lucrae or Hillsong!
The whole premise of the show was based around 1st Corinthians 6:19 "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you...". Focusing the men's efforts on honoring God rather than honoring themselves made the event seem less selfish and self centered.
I loved being backstage and talking with all of the contestants and their backstage loved ones. I met some Journeymen (Baptists will know what I am talking about) who served in missions all around the world promoting the word of God through body building. It was so neat to hear all of their stories.
That is all for now! Off to stuff D full of pasta!!
