I wish that I was writing to say that Dom and I participated in the Triathlon this weekend, but alas my husband is not a great swimmer and I don't look too hot in full body spandex. Instead, we volunteered at the race as a favor to Dom's Air Force Recruiter.
We were not sure if we had made a good decision when we were waking up at 4:30 a.m., but we ended up really enjoying ourselves! We got their early to help set up and then were driven to our spot on the route to direct the bikers. I wish we could have stayed around to see the swimming and to see the racers switch from swimming to biking gear (that is my favorite part about a triathlon to watch). They make the transition so quickly! Instead, they put us at a curve in the race to direct the bikers. We were out there about 45 minutes before the race started so we went on a little walk and made up games to play.
Fun Story: Dom went to take his jacket off at one point as it became hotter and started freaking out when he saw something moving in his coat. Turns out there was a fishing lure and a hook caught inside of his jacket! He has worn that jacket a couple time since the last time anyone fished with it on and never noticed the lure stuck in there!
By the times the bikes had finished, we were too impatient to wait for our ride to come pick us up, so we decided to walk the mile and a half back to the finish line. It was a long stroll but it was nice to be outside and get some exercise. Maybe next time we will participate... and not wear Spandex.
