I am in no way being endorsed or compensated for this post on the Amazon Trade-In program. I wanted to share this process with ya'll today because it is a "hobby" that I recently picked up and is a great tool for making some extra cash!
A few months ago, as we were getting ready to move, I starting looking at all of the stuff that we had accumulated over the years. Dom and I still had lots of our old college textbooks, electronics that we never used, and so many book we didn't know where to put them all. With baby on the way, we had lots of purchases to make, so I started experimenting with some online selling sites. Here are a few that I tried or looked into and why I decided that they were not the best route for me:
I didn't even know that you could sell items TO Amazon at the time. I knew that you could set up a store and sell your own items in a similar fashion to ebay, but that was not what I was looking to do. When using the textbook comparison site mentioned above, I found that Amazon offered higher prices for my books then most of their competitors. For one books, they offered $30 more then every other site! Here are a few things to know about selling items in the Amazon Trade-In Store:
1. You will received Amazon store credit instead of cash.
That may be a slight turn off for some people, but for me, I could buy everything that we needed for the baby on Amazon. Rather than getting a check that I had to cash, they deposit that money into your Amazon Gift-Card account and you can use the money moments after it is deposited to purchases anything on Amazon... and trust me, there is a TON of stuff on there! You can even purchases dried good groceries for your house!
2. Shipping is free.
Once you make an order, they will give you a free shipping label to affix to your box. All shipping is delivered via UPS.
3. You can choose to have them return items or downgrade items for a lower price
If you negotiate that you want to sell a book at "very good" status for $10, but when it is received they decided it is at a "fair" status, you have two choices. They will either send the item back to you for free, or they will give you less money if they think the item is worth less. I had this happen to me one time and just chose to have them return the item. I like that they give you that choice rather than simply paying you less like some sites do.
4. The process is SO fast.
It literally takes me about 3 minutes to submit an item, 2 minutes to packages it, and 30 seconds to drop it in the mail. On average it takes about 4 business days to be delivered to Amazon Trade-In headquarters, processed, and your money deposited.
To show you the monetary value of your things, Here is the prices that they paid for some of our items and what we were able to purchases with that money.
Total Price For this shipment: $169
Total Price For Order: $165
It blows my mind that we were able to get all of that stuff from some old books and electronics that we had laying around the house! If you are looking to make some new purchases, I highly recommending trying out the Amazon Trade-In program!
